Why should I do a background check?
Whether you decide to have us do your background check, or someone else
do the background check, it is absolutely vital that you have a thorough search
completed. You need to know that who you hire to care for your child is really
who they say they are.
Many parents have the babysitter transport their kids to extracurricular activities
and therefore, driving records are essential. Driving records can also tell
about reckless behavior while behind the wheel.
Can I do my own background check?
You can, but to complete a thorough investigation, time and cost may prohibit
doing so. Because there is not a nationwide system available for private use,
it makes it difficult for individuals to easily complete a thorough search.
Criminal records are housed in repositories within our justice system and can
be retrieved by mail or on-site research.
How long will it take to get the results?
Usually the results are back within 2-4 business days. The results will be sent
to you via E-Mail. If a Babysitter has a background check already on file, the
results will be sent the same day as ordered.
Who actually performs the background checks?
BCI, LLC is a company that does pre-employment and criminal background
screening for businesses. They are based in California and have been in business
since 1994. Georgia Babysitters uses this company to perform background checks
on the individuals you have selected.
Do I need a release from the individual that I am doing a background
check on?
It is illegal in most states to use someone’s social security number to
obtain
confidential information without their consent. FCRA (Fair Credit Reporting
Act) states that any reports requested be accompanied by a signed release form
by the employee and notification to the employee if employment is denied due
to the result of the background check. We strongly encourage you to review the
FCRA regulations
prior to obtaining a background search.
How far back do criminal records go?
The Fair Credit Reporting Act of 1971 made it illegal to report “obsolete”
information in consumer reports “obsolete” being defined as information
more than seven years old.
How many years back can I check someone’s driving record?
Driving records go back five years
